Our SLAC MeV-UED proposal has been accepted for beam time! Co-PIs Kasra Amini and Joanne Woodhouse (and beamtime team) are delighted! More femtochemistry in gas-phase molecules studies by UED to come next year!
We have THz generation! This is our second THz source, with generation and characterization performed by our Masters student!
We have UV generation with a Fourier transform limit of 30 fs! Work performed by a Masters intern student.
Fernando Rodriguez Diaz has submitted his PhD for examination! Fernando is the first PhD student in the UED/TERES group, with the first supervisor of the thesis is Dr. Kasra Amini.
Careful analysis of RF-compressed electron data measured by THz streaking suggests that at low bunch charge, an implicit electron pulse duration of 56 fs is possible with a total timing jitter of between 65-95 fs using our UED setup!
Post-compression of CARBIDE output to 30 fs! Characterized by our home-built SHG-FROG!
A home-built SHG-FROG setup built by our Masters intern student measures its first FROG and autocorrelator trace! Thanks to Dr. Federico Furch, we are able to use an existing COPRA algorithm to analyse our FROG data.
Welcome Athira Santhosh, our new PhD student, to our group!
Welcome Dr. Joanne Woodhouse to our group!

ERC Starting Grant “TERES” begins!
Fernando Rodriguez Diaz has finished his PhD with us and has started his first postdoc position at the European XFEL, well done! A big thank you to Fernando for his hard work, determination and perseverance to designing, building and characterizing a state-of-the-art UED setup together, from scratch and an empty lab!
Dr. Andrey Ryabov has finished his time with us! A big thank you to Andrey for your motivation, patience, and teaching us, you're a great colleague!
The first paper of our UED group is published in Structural Dynamics! This paper explains in detail our optical and UED setup, its characterization and exciting developments on the importance of operating at high repetition rate, low bunch charge, with direct detection. We even see beautiful time-resolved signals in photoexcited polycrystalline aluminium using temporally UNCOMPRESSED (300 fs) electrons!
ERC Starting Grant is awarded to Dr. Kasa Amini!!
